Why should I entrust my flowers to Lone Star Freeze Dry?

We offer custom services for all of our customers.  For example, we use the original ribbon from your flowers.  Most of the time, the ribbon arrives at our studios wet, wrinkled, and stained.  Ribbons are laundered and ironed, the re-tied before being placed in your keepsake.  Any left over ribbon is returned to our customers.  We know that the ribbons, pins, hankies or other attachments to your bouquet are sentimental to you as well as the flowers.  In addition, we offer freeze dry service without design service, for our customers who choose to create their own keepsake.

Customers who order shadowboxes are encouraged to design their own look, including providing us with sketches of how they would like their finished product to appear.

We know you have a choice in flower preservation services.  We strive for individualized customer service, because we know that each flower arrangement and bouquet holds a very significant place in the owner's life, otherwise, why spend the money on preservation???

How soon do I need to get my flowers to Lone Star Freeze Dry?

We need to receive your flowers as soon as possible after the event.  We receive flowers via personal delivery 7 days a week, pick up service at your special occasion, or overnight services such as FedEx, UPS, or the U.S. Postal Service.  Generally, the U.S. Postal Service has the lowest rates.  We can provide you with a floral shipping kit, which includes a cooler box, freezer packs, and detailed instructions on how to ship your flowers.  Allow at least two weeks prior to your wedding to order and receive the floral shipping kit.  We charge $25 to pick up flowers within a 30 mile radius of Waco, Texas.  Other flowers may be picked up at your event based on a mileage charge.  Customers located in the Bryan/College Station area can drop their bouquet off at Post Oak Flowers on Mondays for delivery to Waco in a refrigerated truck on Tuesdays.

If the wedding has already taken place, you can use a styrofoam cooler to ship your flowers to us. Use blue ice packs, and using heavy duty tape, secure them to the bottom of the ice chest. Place tissue paper over the blue ice packs to form a nest for your bouquet.  Place the bouquet in a plastic bag and place on top of the tissue paper.  If possible, place the cooler in a corrugated cardboard box prior to shipping.  Ship via next day delivery to:

How long does the process take?

The freeze drying process takes two weeks in the freeze dry machine.  Flowers received while the freeze dry machine is in the middle of a cycle are pre-treated and placed in holding freezers.  Depending on the current volume of orders, most displays are complete within 16 to 18 weeks of receiving your order. This turnaround time is NOT GUARANTEEDWHY? This process requires a high level of skill, and takes time! The inability to predict an exact turnaround time is innate to the process itself.  Please read about entire process for detailed information.

Will my flowers look exactly the way they were on my wedding day?

The age and the condition of the flowers at the time we receive them plays a role in how well they preserve. Please let your florist know that you will be preserving your flowers and ask that they use as little wire as possible be used in the design. The fresher your flowers, the better. Preservation will produce a slight color change. White flowers will become creamy and some colors, especially red flowers, will darken. Some damage may occur to a few bouquet flowers during the wedding and, may need replacement.

Does the quality of flowers matter?

Freeze drying a flower does not improve its appearance. It captures exactly what is there. Unfortunately, almost every bouquet has been through the ordeal of the photography sessions, being carried down the aisle in a death grip, laid down on tables or even dropped once or twice.

After all of this, there are going to be a few less-than-perfect flowers. Most of the time damage occurs on the flowers at the back of the bouquet and can be removed without being missed. Sometimes though, a visible flower is noticeably damaged and we will have to replace the flowers.

How long will my flowers last?

The freeze dry floral industry has only been in existence for the past 15 years, so we cannot be assured of a lifetime of enjoyment.  However, freeze dried flowers protected by a dome, kept out of humidity and sun light, should give many, many years of enjoyment.

Will my flowers change color?

Flowers will change color slightly. Most colors darken after the water has been removed. Depending on the base shade, some peaches will show pink tinges. Reds could become burgundy or show some slightly pink hues. Pinks could become deeper pink or even mauve. Whites,  especially in roses, are ivory when fresh, therefore, they may become darker ivory or parchment. Over time, you may notice the colors mellow, taking on a shading reminiscent of Victorian hues.

Do all flowers freeze dry?

Roses, carnations, peonies, all types of lilies including lilies of the valley, hydrangeas, gardenias, orchids, Dutch iris, and more, all freeze dry beautifully.

Flowers from bushes such as lilacs, tiny petalled flowers, daisy-like flowers, gerberas, and chrysanthemums, as well as wildflowers, need extra preparation and post treatments. We cannot guarantee these type of flowers will come out, but with special techniques we will try our best.

I have a silk bouquet.  Can Lone Star Freeze Dry create a keepsake out of my flowers?

Yes.  Prices for silk arrangements are adjusted because freeze drying is not necessary.

Top

I've been married for years, can Lone Star Freeze Dry recreate my bouquet?

Yes, we offer bouquet replication.  We can recreate your bouquet using a picture from your wedding.  This makes an excellent anniversary gift!  If the original ribbon is still available, we will incorporate it into the keepsake.
